What Hydrionis contains

Observations22,421,497Each resolving to a registered source. A value without one fails the build.
Of which computed by Hydrionis49,588Each carrying its method, version and the identifier of every input observation.
Distinct series43,061One metric, one subject, one period resolution.
Monitoring locations14,395River gauges, boreholes and sampling points. These carry most of the depth and, deliberately, none of the URLs.
Geographies14,919Administrative, operational and hydrological units in one tree.
Entities1,097Including 28 utilities, 12 rivers, 5 reservoirs and 20 recorded events.
Registered sources201From 176 distinct publishing organisations.
Automated pipelines21Everything else was entered by hand from a published document and does not refresh on its own.

Where Hydrionis is weak

Metrics defined but not populated

81 of 155 metrics carry values. The remaining 74 are defined and empty. They are listed rather than hidden, because a registry showing only what exists implies the rest was never considered.

Precipitation anomaly · Annual snowfall · Snow water equivalent · Potential evapotranspiration · Actual evapotranspiration · Soil moisture deficit · Annual runoff · Standardised Precipitation Index (12-month) · Q95 low flow · Annual maximum river flow · Reservoir storage · Reservoir capacity · Groundwater abstraction · Groundwater depletion rate · Total water consumption · Freshwater withdrawal per person · Return flow · Wastewater safely treated · Non-revenue water · Water supply interruptions · Pollution incidents · Storm overflow spill duration · Water price per cubic metre · Total hardness · Alkalinity · Total dissolved solids · Electrical conductivity · Turbidity · Salinity · Calcium · Magnesium · Sodium · Potassium · Bicarbonate · Chloride · Sulphate · Silica · Fluoride · Iron · Manganese · Nitrate · Nitrite · Phosphate · Ammonium · Lead · Arsenic · Copper · Zinc · Aluminium · Mercury · Cadmium · Chromium · Nickel · PFOS · PFOA · Total PFAS · Total trihalomethanes · Bromate · Chlorine residual · Escherichia coli · Total coliforms · Cryptosporidium · Desalination capacity · Desalination specific energy consumption · Wastewater treatment capacity · Treated wastewater reused · Dam height · Population served · Water main length · Product water footprint · Data centre water consumption · Data centre water withdrawal · Water usage effectiveness · Licensed abstraction volume

Geographical concentration

The station-level record is English only. The Environment Agency regulates England; Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have their own agencies and their own archives, which are not yet ingested. Outside the UK, coverage is national annual statistics.

Domains with thin coverage

Utility performance, leakage, tariffs and wastewater are held as recent regulatory reporting rather than long series. Reservoir storage, soil moisture and abstraction licensing are not ingested. Drinking-water compliance is held at the level of published summaries rather than zone-level results.

What is not published anywhere

Some things a reader reasonably wants are not open data at all: facility-level water consumption, most industrial abstraction volumes, and network condition. Hydrionis holds none of these and does not estimate them. Anyone publishing them at scale is modelling, and a model is not an observation.

Update frequency

The 21 automated pipelines re-fetch from their publishers and are idempotent: re-running creates nothing new unless the publisher changed something. What each run did, and what it refused to store, is reported on the ingestion diagnostics page. Values that a publisher has since revised are retained in the Vault rather than overwritten.
