What it is

Hydrionis exists to answer anything meaningful someone could reasonably want to know about water, and to show its working. It combines scientific reference, environmental intelligence, global and local water data, utility and infrastructure records, historical incidents, consumer information and practical tools — in one place, with every number carrying its source, its method and its licence.

What it is deliberately not

Not a filter affiliate site.

Treatment coverage states what each process does not remove as prominently as what it does.

Not a campaign site.

The editorial position is neutral and evidence-led, including on subjects where a campaigning position would be popular.

Not a hydration blog.

Health content follows the reference values, and says plainly where the evidence does not support a common claim.

Not an SEO article farm.

There are no thin keyword-variant pages. Where Hydrionis has nothing useful to say, it does not publish a page.

Not a government data dump.

Data is presented visually and explained, not tabulated and abandoned.

Not an encyclopedia.

Coverage is water and what is materially connected to water, not everything adjacent to it.

The rules

  • Every number is sourced. A value without a valid source identifier fails the build. There is no second path for a figure someone simply knows.
  • Gaps are shown, not filled. Missing values render as “not held”, never as zero or an estimate.
  • Estimates are labelled. Measured, reported, calculated, derived, aggregated, estimated, modelled and inferred are eight different things and are marked as such.
  • Definitions are load-bearing. Withdrawal is not consumption. Leakage is not non-revenue water. A WHO guideline is not a legal limit.
  • Free and open data first. Over 98% of registered sources are free or open. Paid sources are recorded, not depended on.
  • Jurisdiction is always stated. A drinking water limit applies only where it was made.
